Dave Abare is a writer and animal lover born and raised in Connecticut, on the East Coast of the United States. At nine years old he wrote his first story, “Troll Island,” and based on rave reviews from Mom, decided to scrap the astronaut dream and surge ahead as an author. Along the way, he spent several years being a music writer, including creating his own fanzine at sixteen, called “Soldiers of Metal” and going on to interview metal legends such as Metallica, Slayer and Motorhead. In later years, for various publications, he interviewed Blues Traveler, Big Head Todd & the Monsters and Van Halen.
These days, when not chasing his rescue pup Elliott around, Dave spends most of his time writing short stories and novels. Still a massive music fan, his love of rock & roll finds its way onto the pages of fiction as obsessions of his protagonists and ancillary characters alike.
David’s most revered writers range from classic artists like Hemmingway, Salinger and Steinbeck to more recent talents like Nick Hornby and Garth Stein, with his favorite work of modern fiction being, “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” and the book he’s loving at the moment being, “Sweetbitter” by Stephanie Danler.
