Phila Dyasi, the founder and editor of the NuBlaccSoul (new-black-soul) brand, blog and literary platform for African writing, is a Black multidisciplinary artist born and raised in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He is currently based in Johannesburg, where he is working as a marketer for a multinational FMCG company, and trades as a freelance writer and blogger. Dyasi completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Media, Communication and Cultural Studies from the Nelson Mandela University. Dyasi was also part of the oratory society, debating and public speaking competitively, as the written and spoken word exist as siblings in his experience; each with their own particularities and nuances. During his senior high school years, whilst part of a writing circle, he participated in (inter)national essay writing contests. His self-published debut collection of poetry entitled, Chickens Laying Eggs on The Roof was released in the autumn of 2019 and is accessible online for free. The twenty-five-year-old creative describes himself and his work as follows: This is ancestral, past-life reading; this is meditation & prayer; this is future telling. Always becoming. The undying soul in a decaying case.
